It sounds like you are experiencing a restriction in the exhaust system. Insects, mice, rust scale or carbon buildup. Let us know how you make out.

Very curious to see if you've found your problem to this? I am having very similar issues on a 582 with less than 10 hours on a rebuild.

Has ran pretty good before but now not making over 3700 without boggingndown. Runs pretty good from idle to 3700.

I was thinking ignition issue...stator wires somehow grounding out but didn't think about exhaust being clogged. The engine has always ran rich since I received it...new to me rebuilt.

Have a look at the needles to make sure they have been assembled correctly...its easy to put them on the wrong side of the plastic cup and get all kinds of odd symptoms.

BenC and BenM, seems like you guys have a similar problem.

We found a similar problem here recently and found the fault was caused by a restriction in the rubber fuel hose.
What happened was a small restriction in the fuel line was caused the brass barb causing the inside of the hose to have a burr. This is a small amount of rubber which was partially blocking fuel.

Engine ran fine up to mid range and then sometimes ran rough at full revs.
Have you guys checked your fuel lines for any small blockage like this?

Sorry, just now saw this reply. Thank you. I will check fuel lines tomorrow. I have tried just about everything else at this point.....even replacement of the stator, CDI, coil, wires....I really hope its something just as simple as a slight blockage in the fuel line.
