Just got an aircraft that has an engine with no logs. Owner said that it was a 503, but it was liquid cooled, so I am guessing that it is a 532. Don't have the aircraft here yet, but will fully determine then, but it is single ignition liquid cooled.

The aircraft was built in 1989 with 230 hours on the hobbs. With no logs on the engine or aircraft, don't believe that I should trust the engine and NOBODY wants to come near it, so even if I wanted to 0 time it...doesn't look like it will be an option.

This is for an Avid Flyer model B. So without the nose holes, it looks like I need to change out the cowls or stay with liquid cooled. The only radiator is currently below the cowl.

The gear reduction is 2.58, so I am guessing it is a B Box. Once again, I will verify once I get it home.

So, my first thought is a 582 and my question is this: Am I looking at a full FWF replacement or can I salvage some things from the 532, such as exhaust, radiator, gear reduction etc.

If anyone has any better ideas about a FWF that is economical, please chime in.

Yes, I would like to put a 912 on it and no I am not willing to invest $14,000-$20,000 to do it.

TIA

    As for re-purposing 532 parts...

carbs might be reusable if they aren't worn out, but you will need to re-jet them.

Exhaust and radiator will be OK.

    Gearbox will be OK.
(If it was an A-box, the gearbox adapter would be discarded, but the gearbox itself will still be OK to use with 582.)
