I have a new to me 582 that came on an Airborne Classic. The engine was rebuilt about 70 hours ago according to the log book. It ran fine for 10 hours then developed a miss at 5000 rpms. When I pulled the exhaust manifold I can see a pretty good sized vertical scratch on the cylinder wall opposite the exhaust port on the cylinder closest to the prop. This cylinder is also fouling the plugs. I have strong engine knowledge but not on 2 cycles. Can I "assume" this scratch is allowing blow by and fouling the plug? Also one of the cylinders has been running EGT about 150 degrees lower than the other, not sure which side of gauge goes to which cylinder. Would the scratch also cause that? Other than the scratch the crosshatch looks excellent with no real wear showing and no carbon buildup on top of piston or piston rings...I have some really knowledgeable Rotax people helping me and plan to pull the cylinder and have it bored/honed at a Rotax dealer in Sebring FL.
