1. If the ring mount is the standard and best mounting interface for the 912, then why ship the engine with a water pump outlet tube that interferes with the ring mount. Why not deliver the engine with the 80˚ elbow installed? (I did order and install the elbow.)

2. The radiator inlet and outlet and the expansion tank outlet tubes are all ≈25.4 mm in diameter. The water pump inlet is 27.5 mm. Why? Does everyone just wrestle with a 1" hose to make it fit the water pump inlet? Do you use a larger clamp on it?

I don't remember any wrestling with the water pump inlet hose.

    Hi John,

    Speculation:

    1. While the Ring Mount may be  considered "The Standard" many other mounting systems are "out there". If Rotax were to deliver engines with the water pump in/outlets in another configuration, someone else would likely complain - ie its a no win situation.

    2. Like James I have never had a problem fitting 1" ID hoses to my 912. There is enough elasticity in the hose to accomodate 27.5mm.

The water pump fitting can be turned right or left and  at different angles. It should work for any installation. I do a ton or rubber changes and have enevr had an issue. The only issue I have sometimes is with how close the firewall is and muffler that can make it a little harder to get the hoses on, but it works out when you get more experience.
