Hi

I have a Rotax 912 ULS that has ignition problems on Lane B. The engine will not run on only Lane B.
It runs well on Lane A and has extra 10-20 RPM more when Lane A & B are active.

When I turn off Lane A the engine runs rough for aprox. 2-5 sec. before it stops. I have done a lot to check, so interchanging the 6pin connector between Lane A and B moved the problem to the other CDI.

This has been done:
- Changed ignition switches in cockpit, and also the wires to the 6-pin connector form the switches
- Changed CDI-boxes to brand new
- Changed hig-voltage coils, plug-wires and plugs, also a couple of plug caps
- Tried to change ignition pickup coils (but those where falty)
- Ohm'ed all ignition pickup coils, seems OK
- Meassured all ignition pickup coils voltage while the engine was running, with some interresting results.
- Meassured voltage from stator to CDI while the engine was running

Here is my results @ 2000 RPM, see pictures:
Lane A ignition pickup Cyl. 1&3: 2,67V
Lane A ignition pickup Cyl. 2&4: 2,77V
Lane B ignition pickup Cyl. 1&3: 2,37V (!!!)
Lane B ignition pickup Cyl. 2&4: 2,69V
Stator A to CDI Lane A: 24,72V
Stator B to CDI Lane B: 22,35V (!!!)

Here are the results @3000 RPM, have no images of that:
Lane A ignition pickup Cyl. 1&3: 3,2V
Lane A ignition pickup Cyl. 2&4: 3,2V
Lane B ignition pickup Cyl. 1&3: 2,85V (!!!)
Lane B ignition pickup Cyl. 2&4: 3,2V
Stator A to CDI Lane A: 29,7V
Stator B to CDI Lane B: 24,5V (!!!)

Do I have a double failure here? Is there bot problem with Lane B Pickup 1&3 and the Stator to Lane B?
Is it possible to tune the ign. Pickup up to 2,7V? I think I meassured the gap equally on all pickups.

How much voltage do the CDI need to run propperly?
How much voltage should be meassured over the ignition pickup coils when engine is running?

Regards
Paal Erik

    Hi,

Did you check the trigger coil gaps back on the fly wheel?

    Hi Roger

    Thanks for response.

The engine had the trouble, then I got another set of pickup coils, mounted them, but the cable to ine of these pickups was broken. Therfore I mounted the old once back.Meassured the gap on all 4. Teststarted the engine, and it runs with the same symptomes.

The "new" set I got, had the newer mounting brackets, not "dimpled" as they are on my engine.

Can I repair the damaged wire, and interchange all the mounting brackets from the old to the new pickups and try again?

Or is the problem with the stator voltage a bigger issue?

    Regards
