Re: Use of 1/2" hose barb fittings on Metric 12mm Rotax oil hose

If it were just the oil tank or oil cooler it would be simple, it’s usually the fittings on items like oil thermostats where the problem gets introduced.
simpler if Rotax just did everything in 1/2” but unfortunately they didn’t. Nothing like spending a fortune on 12mm hose only to have 1/2” turn up on delivery.

I replaced all my fittings with AN-8 and installed Teflon SS braided hoses mostly from Aeroflow Australia for both fuel and oil. I should never have to change them again.
The cost wasn't much different to buying the Rotax hoses.

I must be lucky - I cant recall having any difficulty fitting hoses.
I my experince, 1/2 inch & 12mm are interchangeable, as are 1 in & 25mm.
The hoses are sufficiently flexible to fit over a slightly large barb.
The only concern I have is a hose that is not tight on the "shaft" of the barb/spigot. A loose fitting hose should not be persisted with, there is no way to guarantee a leak proof seal.😈
