I got a low voltage warning on my Dynon Skyview EFIS Saturday while flying my RV12 912ULS. At 260 hours and a relatively new battery, I suspected the Ducati VR. I removed it today and sure enough the outside G connector was melting. See pictures.

My question is, what is the latest thinking on the most reliable and cost effective replacement for these 'not so reliable' VRs.

Many Thanks for your help,

Wes

    I just put this on on my 912ULS. The same issue as you. This company is great to deal with and the regulator is awesome.

    Hi Wes,

    There is a lot of information on this Forum about VR replacement. Quick summary;

    Depending on what jurisdiction you fly in, you may have to fit an OM VR Rotax/Ducati - Rotax PN 965349 / Ducati PN 362001.

    OR

    There are a number of after markets VR's available;

    • CARMO CARR5115, MOSFET -  Dutch manufacturer. Seem to have a strong following. Non standard Rotax connection. Claims of cooler operating and no need for 22000 Mu capacitor (I fitted one of these).
    • Silent Hektik DE, MOSFET - German manufacturer. Confusing model descriptions. Fitted by at least one small aircraft manufacture. Seem to be well regarded. Must purchase through EU motorcycle supplier (see reading list below).
    • B & C Advanced Voltage controller - Claimed to be specific aircraft VR. USA manufacturer. Highly regarded.  Plug in replacement Must use 22000 Mu capacitor. very expensive - about double the purchase price of EU offerings.
    • Electrosport ESR439 - Fitted to various motorcycles including Honda.  No aircraft related reviews.
    • SHINDENGEN FH020AA  - Original fitted to various motorcycles. Look great. . No aircraft related reviews
    • Mower style VR's eg suited to John Deere.
