Why on earth do Rotax provide a hose stub 27.2mm diameter on the cast rear coolant manifold but 25.2 mm diameter on the hose connector on the coolant reservoir when you are supposed to connect them with the same diameter hose and clip.   Seems a bit careless to me & haven't seen any SB's on the subject.

It works. They've been using this for decades and different parts Mfg.. It's no different than some oil and fuel fittings that different aircraft Mfg's use in their Manufacturing when producing their aircraft. Rubber hose has some allowances. I do many rubber changes a year and has never been an issue and everyone else has been doing it too.

As noted by Roger this has been the case, hose fitting size, since 1989 when they released the engines.  The main fitting at the pump has always been very large and the OEM must fit the hose to the radiator and return to accommodate this.  The feed hoses to the heads and return from the heads have always been smaller.

The issue is that the engines are made in Europe with metric fittings.  In the USA for some reason people want to fit imperial hose sizes and they do not exactly match what was supplied originally. The hose specs are given in the installation manual.

    Cheers
