Rotax 914 & 912? water pipes

Why on earth do Rotax provide a hose stub 27.2mm diameter on the cast rear coolant manifold but 25.2 mm diameter on the hose connector on the coolant reservoir when you are supposed to connect them with the same diameter hose and clip. Seems a bit careless to me & haven't seen any SB's on the subject.
