I have no dog in the fight either way, however I am much more inclined to take a Rotax trained person's word rather than yours's
I also agree that a short time between hot and cold burping probably makes it a non-issue, however, I believe its a good practice not to get in the habit of burping hot since you may not know how long it will sit before the next flight.

Hi James,
Your mechanics advise has no negative safety or mechanical issues - he is talking mythology but that okay, many live very happy lives believing in such.
No offence taken or given. 😈

After tie down, I do 2 or 3 turns (a “hot rotation” since I don’t hear it technically ‘burp’) which moves hot oil into the reservoir. When I next fly, the oil level is up and ‘burping’ takes 1, 2 turns at most.

You can do "burping" for oil check with engine warm (more easy, oil level greater for oil expansion with temp. and easier scavenging to oil tank) or cold (more propeller blades, oil level lower).
Rotax operation manual states you MUST control oil level before each flight so most of time engine it's cold.
So you can burp cold or warm there is no difference except a little different oil level
The only case when i do not suggest burping is when you must store engine unused for months when having oil in cranckcase is a good protection for engine. Nothing magic but helps and better having oil in crankcase than in tank to protect.

I prefer before my first flight of the day to check for hydralock. I have seen a few engines have this over the years. It's rare, but can happen especially if the oil tank is mounted too high.
