RV-12, Rotax 912ULS s/n 6785075

With the Dynon EFIS, my oil pressure is a very small icon and is set up for green, yellow, and red indicators.  I'd like to install a second oil pressure switch that illuminates a red LED if I lose oil pressure.  There is a blocked port on the front of the oil pump that I think would work but need the thread / diameter information.  Does anyone have that information?  Thanks.

So the purpose of the second oil pressure switch is to give you a visual warning IF (unlikly) oil pressure drops to/ below Rotax advised minimum????

Could you not wire the existing oil pressure switch, so that it performs the same duty??

I presume you will have to wire the lamp via some sort of adjustable trigger circuit. 😈

    Hello John

To find the size always go to the parts manual.  This is an M10 X 1 MM thread size.

    Cheers

    Sean,

Thanks for replying.  The main reason is redundancy; I recently attended a Rotax service course and they stressed that loss of oil in a Rotax is a quick death for the engine.  The circuitry to illuminate an LED is quite elementary.  I wired my neighbor's RV-7 electrical system and we did the same thing and it has worked quite well.

Yes but why the need for a second oil pressure sensor - this is double redundancy😈

I don't understand your premise, right now there is only one oil pressure sensor.  If it fails I have no assurance of oil pressure, or if that circuit in the Dynon EMS module fails, or if the Dynon EFIS fails, same story.  If I have an indicator light, I'll at least know I have oil pressure.  I suppose you could argue that the oil temperature would be considered a backup, but a light is an attention-getter.

Here's another reason.  My neighbor's RV-7's Dynon EFIS displayed red "X" on his MAP, fuel pressure, and oil pressure indicators during flight.   We replaced the oil pressure sensor, no luck.  Replaced the fuel pressure sensor, no luck.  Replaced the EMS module, no luck.  Replaced the MAP sensor and all three indicators worked.  I still haven't gotten an answer from Dynon as to why the MAP sensor kept the other two from working.  However, when he was flying he still had the second oil pressure switch to let him know he still had oil pressure.
