Likely a dumb question here: I'm currently helping a friend  with the Rotax 5 year replacement schedule on a 912ULS.  We ordered a new fuel pump and noticed some distinct design differences between them. I wanted to get some community feedback on the compatibility/safety/reliability of the new pump.  The old pump is likely over 10 years old.

The Differences Noticed:

  • Sealing: The old pump utilizes an O-ring for sealing, while the new one does not.

  • Venting/Drainage: The old pump features a nipple for a vent tube, whereas the mew one has a standard weep hole on top.

Thanks

The one with a weephole is an aftermarket on. Maybe purchased from sideslip aviation. I'd stay with a new OEM one from one of the service centers

Unfortunately, your new pump looks like a Chinese version made for their copy of Rotax, offered under ZongShen brand.....

I was never so brave to test them, despite their affordable price ~$100...

IF (?) you decide to stay with the aftermarket pump, I would suggest you rotate the outer casing, so that the "weep hole" is at the bottom, when mounted on the engine.😈

Thanks gents.  Y'all confirmed kind of what I was thinking.  If it were my plane Id defiantly stay away from it.  Thank again for the responses.

"If it were my plane Id defiantly stay away from it.  "

    Why?

It may be a perfectly adequate fuel pump.

My first Rotax fuel pump didn't even have a "weep hole" - Did about 400, trouble free, hrs  before I changed it out for one meeting the current design/specifications. Gave it away, when I sold the last aircraft/912ULS, as a working spare.😈
