    Hi Hans,

    Glad you found your problem. This type of scenario usually ends up in the carbs.

    How many hours and what year was this engine built?

    About 450 hrs since 1995. I will take photos of the two needles. Impressive difference. Btw. the first hint for the carbs was the different colour in the muffler. So I could identify the side with the problem. If I had knowledge of the problem with the needles I could have seen it simply during cleaning the carbs. So I just overlooked the difference in the needles.

    Hi Hans,

    If the carbs are that old and haven't been rebuilt then they have the old red Viton tip needle valves which were supposed to be replaced many years ago.The new ones are black tipped. Carbs that old should be rebuilt more frequently because the "O" rings and diaphragms dry rot just with time regardless of hours. I would highly recommend you rebuild these carbs including the floats. The floats have been changed since then to include alcohol laced fuels.

    I have all the rubber parts already. Now I will go shopping for the rest of it to rebuilt the carbs.
    I have new diaphragms. No obvious difference in look, feel and behavior. But I will change them anyway. The carb looks inside clean like new. Always used best fresh fuel and had no longer times without use. Including the winters.
    But believe me, I dont want to have an engine out on TO for the 3rd time. I will do everything accordingly to the Maintanance Manuals.

    Talk me through the symptoms expressed in the OP as they relate to the defective float needle.
