I suppose it would be OK to tighten to 130 in. lbs and if that doesn't stop the leak torque to 135. Why do the books read to tighten to 125 ? Is that carved in stone and shouldn't be torqued tighter. It seems to me the tank plug should be tightened until the leaks stops. Opinions please

    Hi Terry,

You should torque to 25Nm or 18.5 Ft/lbs for the oil tank drain plug. The torque value is in the Line Maint. and Parts manual.

Roger I did torque to 222 in. lbs which is 18.5 ft lbs but still have a drop oil leak. When I go back to the hanger the next day there's been enough oil leak to bother me anyway. I wonder if it would be OK to torque the drain plug a little tighter ?

With that amount of torque (pretty healthy) it shouldn't leak at all. I would change the style of the crush washer and try to find out why it leaks. A little more may be okay?, but be careful of thread damage. I do lots of planes here and none of them leak. Something must be wrong or different.

    Terry,

You might try what I did. Use a solid copper washer rather than the crush washer. I wasn't having a problem but used a copper washer by accident. It doesn't leak.
