Hello,

my question is about a 912ULS, Ser.-Nr. 4,428.330, manufactured in 2002, actually 695 h of operation.

Due to the Line Maintenance Handbook the TBO is 1.500 h or 12 years, which would mean the end of TBO in 2014.

Comparing the 2 SB ...

- SB-912-057UL (dated 2009-12-01), affecting 912 ULS from S/N 6,775.790 and in section 1) b)
“For all engine S/N lower than given a) ...." and

- SB-912-041UL (dated 2010-03-01) affecting 912 ULS from S/N 4,427.533 to S/N 6,775.789

... I can´t find out for the above mentioned motor, if we can increase the TBO to 2.000 h / 15 years or not.

SB-912-057UL mentions 15 years in chapter 1) 1.1) b), but the newer SB-912-041UL only specifies a maximum of 12 years.

What is right for Ser.Nr. 4,428.330?

Thanks for your help,
Curt

    Hi Curt,
The 2000 TBO starts for engines right around mid 2006 and after. Older engines don't have the newer crankcase. Yours is a 1500 TBO. I would still recommend installing the newer style oil pressure regulator plug, spring and mushroom. You could go "on condition" for inspections after 1500 hrs. depending on your aircraft's service and based on the maintenance that it has received over its life time.

The line maintenance manual has a table showing the TBO limits.

    912ULS engine 4428330 was manufactured with a TBO of 1500Hrs, 12 years.

To upgrade the TBO you need to follow the work detailed in SB-912-041UL and SB-912-057UL.
Your engine was manufactured before the new crankcase design was introduced (around 2006 from 912ULS 5646660). To upgrade to the 2000Hr TBO you will need a replacement crankcase as well as a number of other smaller items.
