Have you done as Rob suggested and looked at the carb needles and see is they are in position #3 and maybe move the clips down one notch? That said if they are in position 3 I can't see why they are lean unless there is an intake air leak. You can get a can of starting fluid and spray all the joints after the carb and if the engine speeds up you have a leak.

I am not the builder of my plane, and I am not familiar enough with the carbs to attempt to do that. The A&P that rebuilt the carbs, I have had problems with availability, and we sort of fell out. I will have to see if my current A&P can do this.

Anyone familiar with this sort of problem live close enough to Petersburg Virginia to take a joy ride in their plane to come by and check it out? I would pay for your time and fuel, within reason.

    Hi David,

If you call me I can tell you how to change the needle clips in 2 minutes. You could do it yourself or at least take a look.

Hi Roger. I have been trying to reach you at your business, with no success. I have pulled the carbs to check the needles. Do the notches work from bottom to top, or top to bottom? The clip in the first carb is in the 3rd notch from the top, or 2nd notch from bottom. My guess is that you reference the notches from bottom to top, in which case it is set wrong, and I need to move the clip up 1notch. Don't want to do anything else till I know for sure!

    Please help

    Thanks

    Hi David,

I'm up in the mountains right now a little out of touch. I sent you a PM.

I'm sitting on a mountain top right now so I have a signal for a few minutes.
