912 ULS not starting when using the choke.

My 912ULS was starting good using the choke on the first start each day. Now it will turnover on the choke system on the first start, but does not start, I can then crack the throttle 1/8 inch and it starts instantly and runs great! Do I have a starting problem? The temp is about 50 F when I start it.

This may be related to an idle rpm setting too low since you have to crack the throttle on first start.

What is your warm idle rpm?

I had a similar issue. My engine when cold do not start with choke and idle throttle. I am able to start it even without choke with just a little throttle.

my idle is around 1900 rpm. Sync perfect. Fuel filter , pressure and gasoline flow verified.

After start the engine runs without problems and , when warm, it starts mmediately at idle.

Any suggestion ?

These things can affect your start up:

Plug gaps
old low torque black starter (a big one in cold climate)
carbs not synced
carbs internals need cleaning i.e. idle jet clogged
idle set to high and or adding too much throttle at start
weak battery
extra cold engine
dirty air filters

dan, know this was a year ago but same thing happened to me after it always started with choke. I did widen the plug gap to 0.027 for summer. Other than that no change. Might change gap back to 0.025. Did you manage to resolve the issue?
