First post. I have been watching the videos and getting emails for a couple of years but somehow missed this forum.

I am building a Just SuperSTOL with a 914. I will have the integral generator and the optional external alternator. Glass panel (Dynon).

Is over voltage protection necessary. If so, what is the best approach? Is it the same for both generator and alternator?

Thanks,

    Ken,

The internal generator has an external regulator and the external alternator has an internal regulator. I wouldn't worry about over-voltage protection as long as you install the regulator correctly and follow the installation manual, make sure you use the capacitors in there too. The electrical schematic is on pages 109 and 110 of the 914 Installation Manual.

    Hope that helps,
