I just tried to install a Saf-Air oil drain valve M12175 in my new 912 from Aircraft Spruce that is for the Rotax 912 engine. The valve will not open because there isn't any room because of the bottom (partition)that's what its called on the Rotax parts list. Mine is concave & once installed back in the oil tank you don't have any clearance for the valve to open. Do the newer oil tanks have a different partition?

    That drain should work.

I know a number of people that have this drain. Did you put the crush washer back in place? That will space it down a little. Has the oil tank been off and maybe someone turned the plate down at the bottom upside down? That drain is slow draining.

It isn't a favorite of mine just because it drains too slow for me. I guess I'm too impatient and like the main drain plug that dumps oil fast. Some people don't have a big choice because of the way the tank mounts and you really can't get to the regular drain plug very well.

Yes I used the crush washer. The plate is in correctly as shown in the parts book with the curved side facing the bottom of the tank. This is a new engine that I just bought & haven't run yet.

The oil tank has been standardized with the 912iS oil tank and the oil screen support plate is now concave (or convex from the oil drain side)
Saf-air has been advised and is working on an adaptor.

    Hi Rob,

You have seen some of these valve get blocked off? Is this a 912is issue? i haven't had the problem on the 912UL or ULS.

So as I thought it won't work for the new oil tanks. I hope Aircraft will take it back since they said that it would work. Thanks for the help.
