I was struggling to understand SB912-068. So I have asked my distributor a number of questions and I thought I would share the info I have received. Anyone changing a head on an old engine might need to know this.

If you change a head to the new style one and it happens to be the head that the wire for the CHT gauge was connected to you must designate the engine as a 912***-01 because you are now monitoring the Coolant temperature. As a result you will need to change the instrument markings and any aircraft documentation to reflect this.

If you change any other head it doest matter and you dont need to re-designate the engine to a "01".

What I haven't found out is if any of the heads are changed if we can still use Evans. Problem is some certified aircraft manufacturers stipulate Evans and it isn't that easy to just change the coolant spec.

Does any one know if we fit the heads to a 912ULSFR as this is not specified, although the engine is basically the same as a 912ULS.

With the suffix on the engine plate "01" I am guessing it becomes a new engine designation, a bit like the 912iS. Does this mean we are going to see a new series of bulletins for this engine designation... I sincerely hope not.
