I'd like to set the pitch of my prop ( DUC swirl ) on my rotax 912 ULS.
I'm targeting 5700RPM max, at full power cruise.
What are you thinking about it ? :)

    Hi Jacques,

Remember that the first test point for you doesn't have to be the final one. You can try different adjustments to see what you really like.

Some of this will be personal preference. It will depend on your own flying needs. Some may have a need for a tad better climb. Set the prop pitch to achieve your desired WOT rpm at your average altitude. It won't do any good to set the prop for 3'K if you always fly at 9'K. Set it up for your average knowing that sometimes you are higher and sometimes you are lower. If you need short field capability over cruise speed then go for a slightly better climb prop pitch.

5700 is okay if you want a prop a tad on the climb side. Drop to 5600 and thats a tad better balance point.
When I tried different prop settings the guys set at 5600 were faster than my 5700 rpm WOT in level flight. While cruising along side them at their 5150 I had to be around 5300.

I have tested more than a dozen props from different MFG's. The best balanced (cruise, climb and fuel economy) WOT rpm (without any special needs) was around 5600-5650 rpm at WOT in level flight at your average altitude.

What was really nice is I got to test them with 4 of the same aircraft side by side and they were all the same make, model and year aircraft. We even take off side by side in pairs so even climb is tested side by side. I gave the results of all this testing to two different MFG's. Funny it never made the internet. I guess then no one could claim their prop was the best thing over everyone else. ;)
