    Hi Rob,
    I guess I'm a little confused too.
Many in the US have quit doing this overload clutch check because there were too many bent engine mounts. Many will only do it if there is suspicion of an issue. Even the warning on that page causes most not to perform this inspection and most can't get to that high a torque check.
It says only if there are lead deposits or suspicion of slippage.

I understand that the 1500 hr. Engine was 600 hrs and that didn't change. The 2000 hr. Engines gets 1000 hr. Gearbox check if using unleaded fuel or no more than 30% 100LL.

I think this is a good question to ask several master distributors. I could certainly be wrong, but curious if more distributors are all on the same page?

    I'll ask around (what's a master distributor?)
I think we have to follow the checklist; it would be pretty confusing if maintenance personnel had to somehow know that the TBO affected the service intervals. (that's what the Service Bulletin search is supposed to do....but the only SB that talks about this is SB-912-033 and it only repeats the 600hr avgas overload clutch check and gives no TBO or serial number reference... so the Checklist is correct)

The context of the statement "only if there are lead deposits and suspicion of slippage" is in relation to chapter 05-50-00 "Unscheduled maintenance checks" That statement is to give more information but it does not cancel out the line item in the checklist that tells you to check the overload clutch at 600hrs (with more than 30% avgas use)I only mentioned it as just one more way of performing the test. I think the support jig would prevent any bending of the mount but I have no experience with the tool. Its a moot point for most owners anyways; why would you make such an expensive tool if you only have to do the test every 6 years?

I am now confused about the question you want me to ask:
    the 1500hr has a 600hr overload-clutch inspection (only applies to >30% avgas)
    Answer: yes
2000hr engines have a 1000hr gearbox check (the scope of work includes an overload clutch inspection)
    Answer: yes

    But,
    All 912 & 912S engines have a 600hr overload clutch inspection (with >30% avgas)
    All 912 & 912S engines have a 1000hr gearbox inspection.
Regardless of TBO or serial number.

So how do you want me to phrase the question?

    Rob,
You had me questioning myself again so I have been and checked the latest manuals. The 1000Hr gearbox service does not apply to the 912 (80hp) engines, only the 912S & 914 engines.

If its that difficult that the experienced engineers cant agree, how the hell are the end users supposed to decode these manuals?

I made a mistake there. (I had it right is the first post and got caught rambling away)

I dont think its too difficult, how would you make it simpler and still cover all the variables like avgas and engine types?
