I have a 912 uls still in the box. I'm building a Rans s7s. Some of the s7 guys are installing electric carb heat and it looks fairly easy to install and on the s7 allows you to omit a good deal of hardware. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with this and what your thoughts were. Thanks

There are two types of add on carb heat many use. The electric one requires power all the time to run and it uses some of your available power and depending on your instrumentation could put you too far over the edge for amperage pull.

The second one is a hot water jacket that is installed between the carb and air intake. It uses the hot coolant circulating so it is on all the time. This requires no power and unlike the hot air type carb heat does not affect the fuel/air mixture.

If I had to pick between electric or coolant carb heat coolant would win out.

If you are going to use the rotax stock aluminum airbox then it is set up for hot air type carb heat and you may not need an additional system.

    Harry,

I have a coolant water jacket that I bought for my 914, installed and removed before flying it as the Rotax 914 wont freeze because of turbo.

If you are interested I will make you a good deal..

Has anybody ever heard of a verified case of carb ice with a 912?

Thanks for the offer.Being unfamiliar with the water jacket l'm not sure if l have the room to install as the s7 is very crowded under the cowl. Do you know where I could research it? thanks for the reply
