HI. I have problem with my current crankcase in well working engine (most parts after overhaul.
I'm thinking to buy used one crankcase and replace my. Problem is that there is no enough informations and manuals how to do this, what I should expect.
Can someone who made it can tell me some tricks about it? What I will need to buy (gaskets, another stuff). It is possible to split engine and put it back w/o special extraction tools? And at least - how about plain bearing's? Can I just swam them from my crankcase with shafts into new one?
I have good tools and experience with motorbike and car engines but no rotax special tools and experience with stuff inside 912 crankcase.
I have all tools to extract magneto and everything up to sprag clutch (what I made last year for my friend).

You won't be able to do this without an overhaul manual and those aren't out in the public. You'll need a number of special tools to do it right. No use doing this and only doing it half way and have another problem. Many things will need to be measured out. You may be able to buy a used engine cheaper?

I would ship it out to a service center (distributor).

Roger, I did it (with service center).
I sent them engine because it was leaking from somewhere. We thought that it was problem with propeller shaft o-ring.
They replaced this oring, magneto oring, they made cylinders and heads maintenance (with planing) after this all job they putted engine to test and they found that still is leaking, they found this crack AT THE END.
I had to pay for heads/cylinder overhaul, parts and anyway now I'm without engine.
I proposed them that I will buy short block for about 8000EUR if they will reset my tbo (engine anyway is out of calendar but 800hrs) but they didn't agreed (at lest rotax Austria didn't agreed).
Now I'm against the wall. They suggest me to buy new engine - ok easiest, funny.
I have to somehow safe this engine in two ways, expensive and good way not working (with new short block) so I'm looking for cheap and w/o new tbo.
I can't count on rotax service center because they are already not interested to help me.
I can buy user crankshaft for about 900eur but I don't know how to replace it...
