912 uls ignition module

in 912 / 914 Technical Questions 8 years ago
I have a 2012 build RV-12 with Rotax 912uls. I just learned that my "A" ignition module is toast. I am wondering how many of these go bad ?. Is there a repair for them ?, or any 3rd party replacements other than Rotax?. Its a little late , I already purchased a new one and it was not cheap, but I will hang on to my old one and at least do an autopsy and find out what exactly happened.
Anyone out there had one of these fail ?.

    Hi Tom,


    Was this a starting issue or at high rpm issue?
    Who said it was toast and or how was it tested to determine this? Lockwood in the US has the only tester. Rotax has had some modules go out, but it has been mostly the starting circuit and within a certain year group. It is not a Rotax engine wide issue.

    It started OK, but had a bad mag drop on A ignition. Installed all new plugs, removed & checked all plug caps. No change, still A mag was only good for 2900 rpm at full throttle runup. Then we swapped connectors, module A with module B, this resulted in B having the bad rom drop. We agreed that this proved that the module was bad no??.
    Work was done by a reputable Rotax shop, Aircore Aviation in Arlington WA.
    Do you have any ideas ?

    Hi Tom,

    I think your problem is before the modules. If it had stayed with "A" then the problem would have been after the module. Since it switched when you switched the wiring it most likely is coming from the wiring before the module.
    Have you put the new module on yet and run it?
