I have a motorglider with a 912UL Rotax. when I am at altitude and shut down engine, it will not stop. Acts like one or two cylinders are running by pre ignition. Have spoken with mechanics that teach in Rotax schools. Been told that I may have broken ground wire in the electronic ignitions. Was told by one the key switch could be bad. Changed all at a 2 grand cost and problem remains. I was also told that it could be carbon build up and the hot carbon could be igniting the fuel with the electronics grounded. Did bore scope with HD bore scope, it shows cylinders and valves look good. Out of ideas. Any thoughts you guys may have would be appreciated.

Depending on the prop and aircraft speed the prop can still turn even on a 912ULS with a higher compression.
Since this is an in flight occurrence this may be all it is. I have a Flight Design CTSW and if I turn the engine off at too high a speed it just keeps turning and won't stop. I have to bring the speed back far enough to make it stop. I can make it turn again by diving a little and bring back the speed. Your compression is much lower than mine so it should turn easier.

    p.s.
It could be a bad ground or an ignition switch to me too only if the problem is repeatable on the ground with no air over the prop..

Have you tried turning off fuel valve in flight?

When I shut down am at 30 or so knots. Prop is carbon fiber and very light. This problem just started occurring 3 months ago. When I am on ground sometimes it will shut down other times not. I even put it in a stall and still cannot get the prop to stop. As I said it seems to be hitting only on a couple of cylinders. Seems to be something in cylinder is hot causing ignition. Do not see it on bore scope. Thanks for you response.

I have turned off fuel valve several times. It takes forever to use up fuel. It is the only way I can soar right now.

Have you tried to slow way down?
