  Wanted to finally get around to replacing our gearbox oil drain torx type plug with the newer hex head plug.
Saw it was $53 at CPS .

I Thought ...
.." I know Rotax parts ain't cheap, but that's just has to be a mistake."

No mistake. That's the price .

I generally don't cut corners on maintenance or parts, but having trouble getting my head around paying fifty buck for a plug that isn't a one-off hand machined out of titanium with a diamond inset, and autographed by the Pope. If I iPad $53 I'd feel like I was supporting organized crime. ;-)

Any way to get the exact specs ...thread, etc...on that plug so I can try to find an equivalent (there are hundreds of vendors of magnetic drain plugs selling well below $20)?

    Hi Al,

In this case it would probably be better to stick with the genuine part. It is specially machined to be a metal to metal seal with no crush washer and the magnetic stem is cut to just the right length to do its job. $53 can be replaced easier than $16,900 for an engine if something went south.

Does the Pope sign Bing 64 carb floats too? $50 a pop x 4 = $200 + shipping. Oh, and no guarantee they won't sink.

Yeah... hate to say so but you're probably right. <sigh>

That said, not much risk in an alternate plug of right thread and length...Would safety wire it and would see if it leaked long before any problem.
But st $20 for the substitute plug and and hour of my research time, not enough savings to justifyi even the tiny risk.

But just had to vent, anyway . ;)
