Just noticed some fuel stain in my carb. Drip pan, appears to be coming from the carb. Adjusting screw under the carb. I know it has a spring and O ring on it, is it ok to screw it out, replace the O ring then screw it all way back in and then back out 1 1/2 turns.

Most of the time the carb leak is the gasket and very rarely the mixture screw.

Thanks Mr. Lee, I will look at it closer and possibly order a rebuild kit.

I would just try a new $15 bowl gasket first. That takes care of 90% of the leaks that many find.

Mr. Lee, just wanted to mention a few months ago I developed a small fuel leak on my 914 engine and you thought it possibly was the bowl gasket and you were correct so I replaced both bowl carb gaskets, When I cut the safety wire on the large bolt holding the bowl on and started to remove the bolt I noticed it was so loose I believe I could have removed the bolt with just my fingers. Next I removed the other carb bolt and it was the same, very loose. I believe if I had only re torqued the two bolts the leak would have stopped. I did go ahead and replaced both bowl gaskets and the two six year old gaskets looked to be in very nice shape. The gasket is fairly thick new and I believe it shrinks in thickness over time. If it ever leaks again I will first check my torque and really believe it will stop.

    Thanks for your attention. Wayne
