Does anyone know what part of the Rotax 912UL 80hp engine these coppery coloured brass-looking metal fragments may originate from?
(They were discovered in the bottom of an Oil Tank Assembly)

Is this a first oil change on a fairly new engine or have you had the gearbox worked on? Are the flakes hard or soft? About how many hours on the engine? Type of oil and timer between changes?

    Re: Message: Roger Lee...
    Q) Is this a first oil change on a fairly new engine or have you had the gearbox worked on? About how many hours on the engine?
    A) The engine and gearbox (having flown them since purchase for 30 hours) have around 600 hours total time. Gearbox was recently removed, overhauled and bolted back on. Then engine was ground run for 20 minutes. The oil tank housing was then removed for the first time since purchase and these fragments were found.

    Q) Are the flakes hard or soft?
    A) The metal fragments are ranging from around 1mm to 4mm but flakey thin.

    Q) Type of oil and timer between changes?
    A) Aeroshell Sport Plus4 used, on a 50 hour interval from previous owner's records...
