    Over the last few decades most of the aircraft mechanics just use mineral spirts it won't cause corrosion.

    Never used it. I have used Simple Green Aircraft from Aircraft Spruce works good is biodegradable and low VOC.

    When I attended an LSA repairman course, the instructor demonstrated an AMSOIL product called MP. It looks like WD 40 but its not. Its completely safe to use on electronics and all he did was spray it on, period. No rinsing no rubbing. It is a Metal Protectant (MP) I don't leave it on the exhaust section though. I do wipe it off that. He sprayed it on a badly oxidized rotax that had been on a trike outdoors. I was pretty impressed which doesn't say much for me or the product, but ... there ya go.
