"Swapping the 4 pin connectors swaps ONLY the Trigger and Charging Coil. (Not the Mag Switches.)

If the problem swaps sides, it is the coils ... If nothing changes, it is the modules.

    Modules = Money$$$ . . .  Coils = Labor!!!"

These days I think I'd often rather see a problem reduced to one that I can mostly throw money at.

Especially if it's "Labor" followed by three exclaimation points.  ;-)

Then in that case, you are hoping nothing changes when you swap the connectors.

Unfortunately, I am guessing that will NOT be the case based on your symptoms.

The number of !!!'s will be base on how well you can access the back end of your engine while it is still in the plane.

There is a plastic cover held on by three screws with the word "ROTAX" in big letters covering the rear end of the engine.

That needs to come off to get to the Coils.  If you have 2-3 inches of Air behind the cover, and can place your hand flat on the cover, it might not be too bad.

If it is backed up tight against a bunch of stuff on the firewall ... !!!!!

Even in the best case, it is going to need Stubby Screwdrivers and mirrors.

    Hi again, Bill.

I'm surely being dense and confusing myself, and starting to read parts of this thread as the "Who's on first" Abott & Costello routine.

Given what you say (that swapping the 4 pin connectors doesn't reverse the Mag Switches) how will I know if the problem has moved. After all, the only way I am currently telling something's not fully normal on right-side ignition is that when at RPM below about 2000 RPM I push down the left side switch  the engine dies?

I I'm hoping you're saying that if I swap the connectors if I'm dealing with a flaky ignition module the behavior of the switches will will reverse; that after the swap pushing down the right mag switch will kill the engine. Right?

    No, you have it backwards.

You are swapping the Charging and Trigger Coils ONLY.

This means that if you swap a bad coil the problem will appear to swap  L to R.

If the Coils are good, swapping a Good Coil with another Good Coil results in nothing changing,

If swapping the connectors result in No Change, that means the problem is AFTER the swapped connectors. (Modules, Spark-Coils, Plugs)

If swapping the connectors result A Change, that means the problem is BEFORE the swapped connectors.  (Charging/Trigger Coils)

If it came down to accessing that back end cover and there wasn’t sufficient space between it and the firewall way before we'd even flirt with pulling the engine out we'd look into citing an access hatch through the firewall. Do the repair through it, and repair/reseal the firewall when done.  That is , unless we had some other really compelling reason to pull the engine, such as major overhaul.
