What can cause the front gear box seal to start leaking oil? The gear box was rebuilt serveral years ago and it's been stored away after about 20 hours of operation it is leaking. Just wondering what could cause it?

EITHER A NEW SEAL WAS NOT PUT IN, THE SPRING IN NEW SEAL IS MISSING, OR STP HEAVY BRAKE IN OIL WAS NOT PUT ON THE LIP FOR INITIAL BRAKE IN. VERY IMPORTANT TO EITHER PUT GREASE OR SOME HEAVY OIL ON THE LIP OF SEAL. ALSO WHEN SEAL IS PUT IN IT MUST G ON STRAIGHT WITH SEALER AROUND OUTSIDE WHERE IT MAKES CONTACT WITH METAL. IF LIP IS NOT LUBICATED AS STATED ABOVE AND IS DRY, IT WANT TAKE LONNG FOR IT TO BE DAMAGED ON INITIAL ROTATION.

SHORT OF REPLACING SEAL YOU MIGHT TRY AT205 BOUGHT FROM AUTO PART STORE. AT 205 IS A RUBBER REJUVINATOR THAT MIGHT SEAL YOUR LEAK. BUT, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO PUT IT IN ROTAX ENGINE.  IT DOES WORK ON AUTO ENGINES LIKE SEAL BETWEEN ENGINE AND TRANSMITION WHERE YOU HAVE TO EITHER REMOVE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION TO REPLACE REAR OIL SEAL ON ENGINE CRANKSHAFT.

Seal may be deformed. The old one whenever installed was not properly stored.

    Otherwise leakage not possible.
