912 ULS with Slipper Clutch - After failing free rotation check of the gearbox (200 in #). I disassembled the gearbox and performed a 600-hour inspection and cleaning.. Now I cannot find the specs on tightening the gearbox slipper clutch (preloading). How tight does the clutch have to be screwed down or do I tighten it down until it stops (bottomed)?

I have looked everywhere for the specs. Where can I find the information?

Keep up the good work out there!

Isn't it strange that no one seems to have any information on the slipper clutch? The big secret, I guess!

The overload clutch info is found in the Overhaul Manual...  only  'authorized shop' are 'allowed' to work on the overload clutch

    Hi Norve

In your original post you say it failed free rotation?  I do not know what exactly that means.  if the gearbox is fitted with an overload clutch you can check the tension of the belleville washer pressure in the 30 degree free play between the dogs.  This is adjusted by shimming and has no relationship to the overload clutch.  The overload clutch test is much different and should be done with proper support for the gearbox as shown in the Line Maintenance manual.

As you have noted there is no information on how to clean or recalibrate your overload clutch from Rotax.  This work must be done by a qualified technicians, normally at an overhaul facility, as it requires special tooling and training to correctly adjust the preload of the assembly.  The best thing is to simply return it to such a shop and have them complete the work.  Working on the overload clutch requires you to have some very special tooling fabricated for just this purpose.  The common practice is to remove the overload dassembly and sent it in to the shop.

    Cheers

I sent the clutch off to Brett Lawton at Leading Edge Air Foils. Brett did a one-day turnaround and reset the clutch break-away torque . I replaced the Bellevue's and phenolic washers and re-shimmed. All is well.

A great shout out to Brett at Leading Edge for the quick turn on the clutch, and to Roger Lee for keeping me on the right track.

Keep up the great work! Ernie
