Hey there R.O.A.N.  New to this site and new LSRM-A.  Doing my first 100 hour inspection tomorrow so thought I would hop on here and see if anyone has any tips, tricks, pointers or advice.  Also, I changed the oil in this airplane a few days ago.  Do I need to do it again as per the 100 hour inspection checklist?  Or simply note on the checklist that it was done recently with the date?  Thank you all for your help and excited that this network exists!

    Hi Nick,

I hope you did the 25 hr. warranty inspection and changed oil then too and then documented them in the logbook. The 25 hr. is an absolute must and requirement. I have always since day one printed out the inspection checklist out of the Line Maint. manual and filled it out. I sign everything. Annotate anything I touch, tweak, torque or change (i.e. plugs, oil, filters, ect..) in the margins. I also print out the checklist for the fuselage and use it. Then I hole punch this and put it in a 3 ring binder and for others I do the same thing. I highly recommend that you start things off right and use this type of documentation. Don't just write you did an inspection in the logbook with 3 sentences like so many. Just document everything you did. This will pay huge dividends in the future. You'll know what you did, you can see trends, other mechanics can see what was done and in case of a serious problem you'll be covered with the FAA, the insurance company and any court proceedings should this ever be an issue. (Let's hope never) I spent 30 years on the street and in courts and if you don't want to get burnt to the ground the only thing that will protect you is good documentation. I've seen many burnt at the stake all because they failed to document.

If you changed the oil a few days ago then that's okay, just document it with the hours. I personally do the 100 hr. and annual condition inspection at the same time and document it so. The differences are just a few and this covers you for everything timewise. I also personally do a compression test every annual or 100 hr. instead of 200 hrs. to watch for any trends. Some people may take years to get 200 hrs.

Don't strive to be average, strive to be a cut above. It's just as easy. Okay now I'll get down off my soapbox. :)

Thanks Roger!!  Glad to see I'm already setting myself up for success.  All of the detailed documentation that you pointed out, I have already planned on doing.  I appreciate you getting back to me and letting me know the best ways to do this.

And that kind of documentation adds to the value of the airplane when you go to sell it.  People love to see the details, and it also gives you a place to come back to and answer questions later when you are troubleshooting something.  ("Did I adjust the carbs then?")

Lubricate your throttle and choke cables snd linkages. My choke was sticking causing one side to run rich. The previous mechanic on my plane obviously didn’t do it.
