What does the V mean in the figure on pg 60 of Install

V is the power (volt) that supplies the instrument.

The "V" indicates that a Voltage Measuring Instrument (Oscilloscope) is used to measure the Voltage (12-16v) across a 100 Ohm test load resistor at 500 engine RPMs.

The Rotor Magnet induces a current in the windings of the Rev coil.
Without a load connected, the measured voltage would be in the hundreds of volts range and unstable.
The resistance of the Load, and the RPMs of the engine, will both have an effect on the measured Voltage.

The Voltage Measurement is made with the Rev Coils disconnected from the display and with a test resistor acting as a stand-in for the load of the normally attached Tachometer head.
