Cleaning carburetors

Personally I wouldn't use an ultrasonic cleaner unless you have blockages that you cannot easily clean using cleaning solvent and compressed air.

My experience of carburettors is that you can easily cause problems that didn't previously exist. I usually just follow the guide in the Rotax heavy maintenance manual and just disassemble and inspect the parts carefully. In all the years I have been working on the Bing carbs I have only ever found a very small amount of particles in the float chamber and a blockage in the 3 small drillings in the venturi. Both can easily be remedied without having to resort to anything more than carb cleaner and compressed air.

I have seen some carbs ruined in sonic cleaner’s. It may depend on the cleaner itself. I don’t use them and I’ve done hundreds of them.
