Cleaning Gray Residue on Carb Internals

I am about to overhaul the two Bing carbs on my 912 ULS. Some of the brass parts are covered by a thin but tenacious gray film -- some form of tarnishing I suspect. Can anyone suggest a safe effective way to remove this tarnish -- a simple dip / washing perhaps? Thank you....
ps -- I've been using 91-mogas with ethanol for 95% of the past 1,200 hours.
