I have a brand-new 912ULS and I am using a McFarlane vernier throttle control.  Two questions:

1.  Is there a torque value for tightening the nut on the drilled bolt at the end of the throttle lever?  This is the place on the end of the throttle lever where the inner wire on the Bowden cable passes through the drilled bolt and is "clamped" (see photo).  Can you confirm that after the inner wire is clamped, the drilled bolt, shoulder washer, and nut rotate freely at the end of the throttle arm?

2. My McFarlane vernier throttle came with a parts kit that contains two brass "stops" and set screws that I assume clamp to the end of the inner wire of the Bowden cable (see photo)?  How is this installed?  Does this act as a backup if the drilled nut clamp (in #1 above) fails?

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi Mike,

I can’t answer your second question however to question 1, yes there is a torque listed in the installation manual, photos attached and yes, the “bolt” needs to be able to rotate in the throttle arm when finally assembled.

    Cheers.

Thanks, Des, I looked all over for that!  I guess that we just hope that the inner cable does not take a set and become loose?

Those brass stops w/setscrews are idle stops. Install them on the cable before you clamp the cable to the throttle arm. Leave them loose until you are done adjusting the idle settings and carb synchronization. Then snug them up to the end of the cable adjuster when at full idle and tighten the setscrews. This helps keep you from bending the idle screw bracket if you pull too hard on the throttle in the cockpit when going to idle setting. They provide a redundant hard stop at exactly the same point as the adjustable idle screw.

    OK...  Makes sense.  Thanks James.

I just looked at the McFarlane website.
My guess is those additional stops are designed to be used as the idle stops placed on the cables between the throttle arm and the end of the Bowden outer. If carefully placed there after setting the carbs for balance and idle, etc., the load on the carb idle stops (that WILL bend if loaded too highly) at idle would be negligible. You’d need to be careful not to over tighten them though in order not to damage the cables.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Cheers again.

Oops, sorry, I see James already replied whilst I was doing the same!
