Most of the products marketed as "airplane belly cleaners" are degreasers, because legacy engines spew oil onto their airframe's bellies. With a Rotax, I don't get oil on my belly, thankfully. But when I burn 100LL, I do get that white lead residue on my paint.

I have tried a few things that work fairly well, (K&N Air Filter Cleaner, Extreme Simple Green) but still looking for something better!

Has anyone tried Aero Glaze? Reviews say it's great for removing exhaust residue, but most of them discuss turbine engines. I couldn't find any reviews that mentioned lead residue.

What is your favorite cleaner to remove that 100LL exhaust lead residue?

I have been using "Oil Eater" for decades and it works very well and doesn't hurt anything. It is water based and biodegradable. I use it at home and at the hangar. I use it on fuelages, engines, floors and at home on the stove. Oil Eater wipes grease and oily things off quickly and easily.

Thanks! But I'm not looking to clean grease and oily things as much as I am the lead residue. How well does it clean the white lead residue from 100LL exhaust?

I am not using 100LL in my Rotax powered aircraft, so I didn't check that in practise.... Anyway, my chemical background tells me that PbO, that is a main part of the yellowish residue, is soluble in alkaline solutions, so I may recommend to try a "cleaner" with ammonium (ammonia) additive, like glass cleaner or so....

PbO is also soluble in acid solutions, but those are highly corrosive to aircraft metal parts..... so do not try such cleaners.
