Anyone know much about the 912 gearbox oil modification that is being done?  I saw it on an engine at a flyin.  Seem like a fitting is taped into the gearbox where the crankshaft bushing is and then a fitting is tapped in above that where the prop shaft dogs are.  A bent tube connects the two fittings.    This is supposed to give additional lubrication to the gearbox dogs.

    Hello Clyde

The Rotax way was a new casting of the housing to allow for enough material to mount a spray nozzle with the correct length to push a bit toward the back of the overload clutch area.  Do not forget that at the same time the lower belleville washer support was modified to allow this oil spray to get to the splines.  Doing one without the other is not good.  The parts can be seen in the heavy manuals.  if you were to get a new housing today it comes with the nozzle standard on all engines (not for the new gearbox 915 or 916)

The only gearboxes that really needed this was the injected 912.  This was due to the zero degree clearance of the clutch dog to gear dog on that design.  The others have gaps that allow oil mist to lubricate the splines.

    Cheers
