Our club is operating a CTLS with the 912ULS engine. We are thinking of upgrading to a new CTLS equipped with the 912iS. Does someone have anny bad experience with the 912iS ? Thanks. Roger

    Hi Roger,

I fly and maintain Flight Design aircraft. I have one CTLSi at my field (8 CT's total). The owner loves the plane. It can do things others can't. The panel almost rivals a Lear. 2 x 10" Dynon panels with ADSB in/out, Garmin 796, Auto Pilot, one of the roomiest cabins in the LSA industry, Strong MFG financials, backed up with sales for months, The 912is sips fuel below 92% throttle. When I fly my CTSW along side the CTLSi they burn 1.1 gph less than I do below that 92% throttle setting. BRS parachute is standard equip. The only drawback at this moment depending on where you live is maint. on the engine. Not just any mechanic can work on it and someone will have to have a class.

The engines are doing well with about 12 in the US and a long line for more waiting for delivery. They all seem to be performing well.

You may want to have everyone spend some time with the 912ULS model. Clubs tend to be overly hard on planes and you wouldn't want people smashing gear on a new plane. I would hold everyone to a high standard on landings before renting it out. I know of one club that wish they had done this and after the second smashed gear decided to test and check all fliers and make sure they are proficient in their landing abilities.

I am facing a problem, that I am using BUDS to view engine parameters, During the engine start, the connection of Lanes A & B lost. Both lights becomes Red.

and to re connect it again I need to turn off / on the both lane switches one by one.
What will be the probable cause of this failure???

I own and operate a Kitfox supersport SS7 with a 912iS. I built the aircraft and installed the 912iS. The engine has 50+ hours of flight time and is performing very well. The only issue I
have is that after start and warm up the rpm must be increased to +/- 3500 rpm before the B ALT
will show charging current on the Advanced 5600 EFIS. Cold weather starting is very good. At 18 deg
F it starts within 3 blades.

    Hi Richard,

Your issue is normal and built into the system. You start on your battery and run on the battery until you rev. up to at least 2850 rpm a.k.a. 3000 rpm for the system to swap over to engine generated power. So start the engine, check oil and gauges and after about 30 sec. Run the engine up to 3000 rpm for a second or two and then back down to warm up rpm. This is all normal for the 912is.
