I have the same question. I've installed 5 i s engines now and each one has been a problem because the manual doesn't say whether it's the front of the connector or the back. both 915 and 916. so which is it because there is no number on the supplied molex 150 connectors. Thanks Jak.

As with most multi-pin connectors, the male and female connectors are mirror images. If you are looking at the front face of the connector with the male pins, the #1 pin is on the upper left and the numbers read left to right like reading a book.  However, if you are looking at the front face of the connector with the female sockets, the #1 pin is on the upper right, and the number read right to left. As stated earlier by Rob, if you look very closely, typically at least the #1 pin is labeled.

You can visualize this looking at the attached wiring diagram. The connector on the wiring harness side (engine side) has female sockets, so imagine unplugging it and looking at the front face. You can see the #1 pin would be on the right and it would read right to left. However from the back side it would read left to right.  Thus, the HIC connectors in this illustration are shown from the back of the female connector, which is the same as the front of the male connector it plugs into… which is exactly why they show it that way.
