So I'm about to buy a pipistrel virus SW and was wondering if the 912iS is a better option over the 912ULS in the general community's opinion. I know there have been issues with the 912iS, but is it all done with?

Which motor would you buy as of today?

    912ULS simplicity for me.

This conversation may be like Chevy's and Ford's.

you mean confidence because its well known? or simplicity? because I thought you saved a lot of carburator work, hence 912iS being simpler..... but I'm no expert

I have a 912iS with 230 hrs. I had some issues with gearbox, however all corrective work was in warranty. I would buy another 912iS if I were to build another A/C.

The difference between the 912is and the ULS is the Induction system. Carbs vs. Fuel Injection.
The 912is has a few minor Differences/Improvements but the rest of the engine is essentially the same.

    As yourself this question....
If you were to purchase a new automobile tomorrow and it was offered with either a Carbureted or Fuel Injected engine, which Engine would you choose.

My crystal ball says that within 5 years, Rotax will only offer the 912is and the 915 Turbo engines for new installations.
The ULS will have after market support for 10-15 years and then join the carb'd Auto engines as a part of history.

I have two Aircraft one with a ULS (100 hr) one with an IS 420 hr.
the IS starts easier runs smoother, burns less fuel, No Carb syncing, no carb icing. Both great engines but I wish both were IS.
