It looks like it has been a while since we have complained on here about the new Rotax Spark Plugs so I'll get us started again. I have been looking for them to buy for an upcoming inspection event and it seems like they are not available except from Aircraft Spruce for $74.85 each!  You gotta be whackin' me!  Has anyone else been having trouble finding them lately or how have you been dealing with the Rotax plug situation on the 915is?

Advancedpowerplant.com lists them for $37, which is still ridiculous, but less ridiculous.

All...Aircraft Spruce is a reseller, they most likely buy them from someone like Advanced.  They are not an authorised Rotax distributor/service centre..

    Cheers

and a postscript, those are not made in the USA, taffits will be included at a hefty price.

They list them, but don't have them in stock at the moment. On backorder.

I’d like to blame more of the cost on tariffs, but the tariffs when importing from Germany (Bosch) to the USA is 15% of the declared value, not the resale value.  I would bet the declared value is no more than $10 each, so that accounts for $1.50 tops. That does not make me feel much better about what is essentially a $37 automotive spark plug.  Just sayin…

    Hi Jeff

The 15% is applied to the selling cost, not the manufacturing cost, of a product.  So when it is imported into the USA there are already margins in the part.  The buyer in the USA, for example the distributor of the part, has to pay that tariff.  While I agree it is a high price we are stuck with the changing landscape of retail of any imported goods.

This branded plug is made just for Rotax and the original supplier takes no responsibility for it due to the nature of aircraft litigation (almost 100% a US based issue)  The same issue, litigation, is why NGK is no longer allowed by NGK or Rotax to be used in the engine. If the administration wanted to really help they would follow more of the European legal system and put liability limits on claims.  Without that the open end nature of claims make producers very nervous, especially with aircraft, to supply this market.  For those who have a carb engine note that in the past years the name on the carb is now "ROTAX" and not 'BING".  Same issue.  Bing no longer accepts liability for any carbs used on an aircraft version engine.

    Cheers
