It seems, from previous discussions on this exercise.
This can be a problematic.
Is there any reason why fitting a washer would create
a problem.Fitting a washer would surely make life
a bit easier.
If this is not a problem what type a washer would be
suitable

Yes I did that years ago, still works today for me. [But although a pragmatic solution, never blessed by Rotax !].

Best you peruse same topic under 4 stroke section of this forum for details.

    Hi Colin,

This plug should not have a washer. It has a special cut at the base. No one should have an issue unless they have damaged the plug some how. This was designed not to leak. The older plug with the #40 Torx end got stripped out by a few by not seating the Torx all the way to the bottom of the plug and or over tightening. The newer style plug has a hex head like a bolt and should not be a problem.

    Hi Colin

I have had problems in the past. The last one I had, I had to go to town on. I warmed the engine up first, which I think was the best thing to do, then removed the No. 2 exhaust manifold, sprayed freeze spray on the torx head, tapped the torx bit a couple of times with a hammer, and then it just about let go. I replaced it with a new one.

If you have a torx headed plug, I would definitely change it. If you don't want to change it, I can't see a problem in fitting a M12 copper washer to seal it and aid removal.

I think you would be better fitting a copper washer so you can remove the plug and check it, rather than not checking it because you can't remove it.

    Cheers Mark

    Colin,

FWIW you can try without pain 'my' solution. If NBG then go back to the tight metal to metal original.

Successful every year for the last four is to use a (fresh) Copper/asbestos washer same spec. as used under the Rotax oil tank drain plug. Re-torque to the same figure as drain plug, plus the usual wire locking. It NEVER leaks and comes out nicely for inspection at the 50 hour checks.

    Colin,

I've never had a problem with the plug but I install a new copper washer every time I remove the plug for the same reasons Mike does. I get them in metric sizes at my local auto supply house.
