I have just purchased a used ultralight with 503 motor and Air Drive Service starter. I am trying to access starter through teh back plate and it will not come off any suggestions?

    John,

I've never seen an ADS starter on a 503. Seen a few on motorcycles years ago. The rotax electric starter comes off with just two screws but I'm not sure about the ADS. If I remember correctly they did not use a bendix type throwout gear, but a fixed position one way gear. Is that correct?

Send some pics and maybe we can help.

    Bill.

I managed to get the back plate off tonight. Needed a bit of rust removing from teh crank shaft end. I have a new belt on order, so hope it goes on OK else will post another plea for help.
