Hi guys...just looking for peoples thoughts....Discovered yesterday the 2 or 3 of the wire re-enforcement strands have broken on the outside in a localized area on the one piece duel carb K&N air filter...the filter material looks fine,

I believe the wire is aluminium so quite soft,

I'm concerned about wire being sucked into the the engine,

I'm not sure how the filter is constructed but am wondering if I need to replace it...its about 18mths old and new here in the UK they are around £60 $100,

The engine is a 503,

What do you think guys.

    Nick,

I doubt seriously that damaged screen on the outside of the filter would ever be a problem. There is a metal screen on the inside as well and if the filter media is OK, there is no way for the wire to get inside. A little silicon on the damaged area will stabilize the broken wire and won't affect the airflow enough that you would ever notice.

Thanks Bill...had a better look at it now that you think its still usable...and I understand the construction better now...I see they are 2 separate screens..top/bottom,

I thought at first they when woven together...I think I may try a small blob of something like epoxy resin rather than silicon to lock the broken wires,

    thank for your advise Bill.
