    Roger- thank you for the common parts list. A few questions;

    If I send my carbs to Lockwood Aviation for overhaul, which carb parts will they replace (and therefore I don't need to buy separately)?

    fuel line- can I buy Gates fuel injection hose at an auto parts store? 1/4 or 5/16th??

    oil line- can I buy oil line at auto parts store? What spec or brand should I ask for?

    Hi John,

    I do not know what all parts Lockwood replaces. When I do carbs I replace everything inside except the floats and if they are old floats and starting to flake then those too. The only thing that would be a duplicate in the rubber hose kit would be the carb diaphragm. Those you wouldn't need if you are going to rebuild the carbs anyway.
    I replace all the "O" rings including the ones on the butterfly valve, bowl and enricher circuit (choke) gaskets, needle jet, main jet and needle (because or wear). So for the most part you get a new carb except for the body and depending on if we replace the floats. Most of the time floats don't need replacement. The carb rebuild kit is $249 which includes both carbs and when I do the carbs I only charge parts plus one hour labor, $60 (plus any shipping). So you are looking at around $310. I think Lockwood is over $400 plus any shipping.

    If any one needs carbs or gearboxes rebuilt I will be happy to help.

    I don't know what the local auto stores carry, but gates fuel injection line is easy to come by and depending on your system you may need both 1/4" and 5/16". You will have to look at your own system. Most people need both sizes.

    The oil line is 13mm and you may need to get that from a Rotax distributor. You probably won't find that locally.

    Would you confirm or deny that the fuel pump requires replacement with the 5 year rubber maintenance?

    Thanks!

    Hi Phil,

    Well there is more than one answer. If you have a certified 912 or an SLSA in the US and the fuel pump has the long 1" chrome looking ferrules then yes it comes with the new hoses. It's fairly expensive at $500 plus. If you have an engine where the hoses were added on later and have some other type of clamp from the aircraft Mfg or the owner and in that case you can buy the pump separately so then it would be just the hoses and keep the pump. Bottom line is change those hoses and then you decide on keeping the pump or not. I would have to say the majority of the people I know have not changed the pump and did just the hoses, but you'll need to look at your own application. All the new pumps I have seen have not had hoses attached.
    I don't know if this helps your decision or clouds it up.

    p.s.
    The best tool to remove Band-it clamps or Oetiker clamps is a Dremel tool with a cut off blade. Quick and easy.

    Perfect, those are the details I needed...makes a lot more sense than my initial interpretation of the discussion. Thanks! :)
