Has anyone else had faulty carb floats on a new engine? Mine was built early 2013 (Feb?) and fitted in Sept 2013. To date about 18 hours run time. From the second or third flight there was the odd cough when throttling back and after about 1 hours the odd smell of petrol but no obvious leaks etc. Then we had a flight to the Isle of Wight and when we landed some oily streaks along the fuselage. Panic. Looking under the cowl showed some fuel in the port carb drip tray. A call to our engineer confirmed possible problems with the float valve - perhaps contamination from the engine swap out. We flew straight back (45mins) and when we landed we had obviously lost a lot of fuel. Today the cab was stripped and cleaned - no joy. Then the floats were tested in fuel - one sinks and the other lies lower than those from the starboard carb and the spares we fitted. Somewhat alarming to say the least.
