I am new to the aviation world and have found that there is a never ending mountain of stuff to learn. I have a rotax 912 that runs beautifully. Recently when I check the oil, after gurgling, the oil level reads at half and the next time I check it is at the top of the stick. What is the reason for this? This is new as I have been running for almost a year now.

It lies sometimes. You may have had a little more oil still in the crankcase. This is one reason I tell people don't get to hung up over the EXACT oil level. It can vary from time to time. Some engiine's seem to be better than others. If you see a big difference start the engine for a few minutes and check it again.
